Wouldn't worry too much as if for any reason the flash didn't work the first time you can re-flashed it just don't turn off the power until told to do so ;o)

PSP coms are initiated from the handheld
Just to help you along, the PSP will try to establish a connection to an outside host. From there you should be able to get IT to attempt comms to you.
