For firmware <2.1, there is a driver which provides some 2D acceleration using the RSX. I am currently using it in Ubuntu 7.10 and am reasonably pleased: window moving is very smooth and quick, without the annoying artifacts which exist without acceleration. It supposedly also accelerates mplayer, b...

Jim, This brings up a related question, if you don't mind me going off-topic for a minute. I have not been able read in ps3 linux the otheros partition(s) of a disk which was originally created on the ps3. The disk mounted, but no useable otheros partition was visible. Any ideas? Thanks. Warren Nago...

Hello, I have the ps3rsx hack installed (with supposedly accelerated 2D xorg) and tried to play that sample using: mplayer -vo xv killa.sampla.x264.mkv and I get a very broken up video - short bursts of video and audio. Am I doing something wrong? Perhaps I should use the spu medialib approach if it...

Hi Bill, I am also very interested in PPC Mac OS (not necessarily OSX) emulation on the PS3. The first thing that came to mind was to run MOL (MacOnLinux). I have been in email communication with Joseph Jezak (the current author/proprietor of MOL) and he said that 64 bit kernels are not supported ye...

I had formerly wondered whether the accelerated Xorg was really accelerated. I based this on the fact that I was still getting multiple redraw rectangles when moving windows. Well, I had forgotten a critical step: run xcompmgr. No more redraw artifacts, no matter how large the windows and how many o...

It seems to work now. 2D behavior seems much faster, with no redraw artifacts in most instances. The only exception is a large firefox window: Moving another window over it will display redrawing images (but they last a much shorter time than previously). Scrolling speed is not affected, so far as I...

Hello, I am very much of a novice about kernel building and the various graphics-related topics here but have been very intrigued by the possibility of an accelerated Xorg, which would make a nearly unusable system at least tolerable. I originally was using YDL (hopeless for these cutting edge hacks...
