standard sony CRC poly?

I was messing around with a save game and it looks like it has a 32 bit CRC attached to it. I say this because there is a 4 byte piece of data thet follows everything I can make sence of, it changes drastically with even a single bit change, and being that it's 32 bits, it would fit in nicly with be...

Seeing the trouble this has cause, I humbly offer an apology for any wrong doing. My intention was not to threaten, just a bit too much curiosity.

yea, but the idea of abstracting the system and making it work as you mentioned seems like it'd be interesting. As I said, I'd like to see if I cna fix my pet peeves with somthing like the PS2, I think it might be possible with the homebrew base. I'm a green engineer at this point, but someday (that...

I'd love to get at this info. Among my current ambitions is one to build a homebrew CD player to learn about the archetecture. I was at an engineering conference and spoke with an EE from Phillips who though a homebrew CD player would be a great idea, and gave me some info sources. So that's the sou...

I've actually developed somthing along those lines, although so far it only has support for NES and SNES controllers. I want to add support for more game consoles before I do anything like release the plans for it. It's toally software driven, and the platform supports a feature called renumeration....

bios question, not about dumping

Since this is hte newbe forum, I figure I'll ask a newbe question here. What I'd like to do is augnment the PS2's bios with some rewriting and recompiling. Why on earth would I want to do somthing so crazy? Well, there are those nice USB ports on the front of the PS2, and little use for them outside...

It's special, though I don't know how exactly (I need to start trolling patents). Be aware that the control electronics (what we'd call the ASIC, the Japaneese call it an LSI) are on the mainboard. I wouldn't mind datasheets for some of these parts if anone has them, I'd like to start hacking the dr...

The concesus seems to be that the expansion connector is acustom flavor of PCMCIA so that menas the IDE controller is in the unit to plug the HD into. Seing as I don't have a network or hard drive adaptor I can't take it apart and look up the datasheet for the controller they're using. Most chips ou...

bah, the FX2 is overkill. In this case, an off the shelf, electronics store USB to RS232 part is the way to go. If it was somthing weird that wasn't rs232 compatable, then it'd be fun to make an interface.

http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/ee.ars/1 That sould ginve you an overview of the archetecture involved. Actually, the basics aren't all that hard to understand. It's still a MIPS core with what makes the archetecture special, the vector units, attached as coprocessors. Most of the weirdness...

I'll plea for specs on the PS2 mem card as well. I do know that on the PS1, the controllers and mem cards shared the same bus with the exception of a few control lines to select a specific device. Is the same true of the PS2? If so, then maybe I can throw a logic analizer into the mix assuming I can...

Is there any data out there specifically for dualshock 2? I'm working on a 'swiss army' USB interface for various console controllers. The current version supports basic NES and SNES controllers. Next I want to add n64, PS1 and PS2 support. Full support for the base model PS2 controllers means suppo...

This is the the cable that is soldered ditrectly to the PS2? I'll look at using the FX2 USB development kit to make it connect to the PC through USB. The problem is I don't know about developing drivers (my projects have conformed to standard USB classes so far).

ps2dev going commercial

The news is that the site is being sold to a company. I just found this site and its forums. So far, the forum seemsone of the better sources of info on PS2 hardware. But with a company buying the domain will the forums disappear? That isn't enough time to get all my questions answered here, so in a...
