Ripping out the UMD drive Possibility?

Hypothetically, would it be possible to rip out the UMD drive and replace it witha small 5gb flash drive that connectts via the memory stick slot.

It would be a great haven for the emulators and roms. Or in general replacing the UMD drive with anything capable of more flash storage.

There really needs to be a sticky stating that homebrew apps will run only on 1.0 firmware. This is getting tiresome to read the same thing over and over again.

Going to Japan in a few weeks, plan on getting a PSP

I am goin to Japan in a few weeks. I would like to get a PSP that has firmware 1.0. Does anyone know if these are still being carried in the stores?
