The network adapter on the other hand is difficult to get, usually requiring a special order or personal importation, and if ordered locally it costs at least three times as much as the USB cable - at least $6...

Network adapter vs USB cable?
Hi,
What advantages are there to using the network adapter instead of USB to connect my PC and PS2?
If there aren't huge immediate advantages I may wait until I can afford the Linux kit rather than buy the adapter, then get another with the kit later.
