Is there an FAQ around that describes the differences, advantages and disadvantages between the different PSP firmware revisions?
I've had a Japanese v1.00 PSP sitting in a box for the last 6 months or so, and I've finally decided to actually try some homebrew development on it. Are there any reasons at all for me to update my firmware to a newer version?
Do any other homebrew applications require newer firmware than 1.00, or are the advantages only within the normal PSP browser? As far as I know (which is a few months out of date) v1.00 is the simplest firmware to run stuff on.
Last question - sorry - is there a simple tool out there that will change the language of the browser from Japanese? If I remember rightly it's just a flag somewhere in the flash ROM?

If you only intend to do homebrew on your PSP, then there is absolutely no reason for you to ever upgrade it.
The language setting is in the System Settings menu. After powering on the PSP, scroll all the way to the left, scroll down twice, and hit Circle (the menu looks like a PSP with a wrench). Scroll down once to access the System Language setting.
