V3 PS2 with Messiah mod refuse to boot ANY ELF

Post by whodini »

I must have burn over 30 cd-rs so far. TRied every guide i could find on the web, about booting elf images and the MC exploit. I also tried the PS2Link 1.24 i got from the main page, but always my ps2 freezes at a black screen, plays the loaidng sound, shows "Playstion SCEE" without the "P" logo, and thats it. I presume it doesnt load the elf image, right? Does anyone know why? Is the messiah able to boot elf images? Its a version 3 ps2 wih the very first release of messiah chip. Please help if you can, i would greatly appreciate it.

Regards

If these are pirated games, you're in the wrong place. If you are referring to homebrew software, I've found that putting a BIG dummy file (say 100MB) on the CDR allows it to boot with my mod-chip. Without the BIG dummy file, it always fails.

For example - PS2Reality media player. It's really small and can be run from CDR (with mod-chip or swap trick). I never could get it to boot unless I added that big file to the contents before writing the CDR. The file can have anything in it - it doesn't matter what it is as long as it's big.

am not talking about pirated games. am talking about burning the ps2link iso found on this site and load it to my MC so i can run the ftp server on my ps2. The iso already has a dummy file, about 100mbs, so i guess that isnt the problem? Thanks for the reply though, i appreciate it. Anyone with a messiah chip out there who tried the MC exploit?

it's because you are bootting in psx mode that's wrong, you should boot in ps2 mode

I've got a messiah chip, and I definately need to dummy whatever disc I make. 100mb should do the trick.

But yes, if it says Playstation SCEE then you are booting in psx mode.

Generally, I boot my ps2 up in psx mode to activate the memcard exploit and launch ps2link. But for the install it needs to be in ps2 mode. Double tapping (often accidentally) will put it in psx mode. If you've still got doubts about the mode, boot up by pressing eject. That shouldn't be able to go wrong.

thanks for the replies. If i boot in ps2 mode, i get a black screen with macrovision on (green letters) saying "Insert Disc". I believe it thinks the exploit instalation disc is a dvd movie? Keep them coming, thanks :)

Is the install of your mod fully functional - as in does anything boot correctly?

I use a messiah and have had no problems whatsoever booting into PS1 mode and executing the exploit - or burning ps2link and getting it to boot in PS2 mode.

Just out of curiosity, I burned ps2link with and without a dummy file to increase the size of the ISO, both booted and performed perfectly.

How are you creating the images? Are you burning them XA mode 2, Form 1?

Well, everything else works beautifully. PSX,PS2, even DVD9s. I used both nero and alcohol120% to burn the images. IS there a specific program i should use?

I'm assuming, maybe incorrectly, that the working images have been created by someone else, or copying...

There is no 'specific' app to use - just that you write the correct format.

When you've created your own iso of ps2link, are you burning it to CD-R in XA mode 2?

i burned the ps2link image i found on the front page. i tried in mode2 XA using the magic iso burning tool, and now in system browser the burned cd reads as a ps2 game! When i try to boot it, it spins, the activity led of my pocketstation goes on, my hdd starts spinning, and after a black screen am back at the browser. Anyone knows a tutorial to follow to make my own image, or even better a complete guide of connecting my ps2 to my pc via wireless ftp?

Question - why would you want ftp?

so i can transfer my mp3s to the ps2 and play them with media player.

ps: is it against the forum's rules to ask someone who has a PAL machine with a messiah to mail me the image of the disk he used to install the memory card exploit?

The iso that comes with the ps2link releases are padded and all, ready to be burnt on a CD in mode-xa2, and thats it. before I make a release I test em on all of my machines. the oldest wich is a v3 with a neo2.1 mod, I even have a v4 with messiah, the rest are messiah2 machines.

Not having a HDD installed doesn't make any difference at all - the exploit is simply a means to execute arbitrary code.

If you've correctly burned the ISO Blackdroid has mentioned and it still doesn't work, I suspect bad media.

There is no difference for the iso when it comes to pal/ntsc ( and for the record I live in sweden as seen on my user info, and yes all my machines are pal ones )

BADATA/BEDATA is a directory on the memorycard and that is dependant on the region of your ps2.
