networking reality media player
networking reality media player
I'm having some trouble getting reality media player to talk to my pc. I know it ivolves ps2vfs which can be found here: http://ps2r.dg2.org/150/downloads/ps2vfs.rar but I'm not sure what do do with it to get it working. If anyone knows anything about it i'd love some help.
Also I've got a 200gig drive in my ps2 and ps2menu 2.6 and launchelf 3.4 don't seem to be working to well. I can boot into them but then they lock up. I'm thinking the problem is that they don't support 48bit lbas. does anyone know anything about this? If they don't and someone would show me how, I'd be willing to patch them.

<sarcasm>well thanks for all the help guys</sarcasm> :/ anyway i did get a little farther i can now get ps2vfs up and running and the network up and running in realiy and my computer seems to think they are connected but when i try and browse the network using reality i don't see anything. anyone have any ideas?
Well,
This isn't precisely a PS2reality support forum. Especially since there is no source code available for PS2reality.
As for LBA48 support on PS2Menu and anything else where source is provided here, I thought those bugs were fixed in the latest sources. Try downloading new binaries from this site, or failing that, recompile them from source.
And for anything where source is provided from this site, I am sure people will be happy to hear of any problems and be interested to try and fix them. :)

Krilon made last release some time ago:The_User wrote:I'm having some trouble getting reality media player to talk to my pc. http://www.ps2reality.net/downloads/med ... -1.1.1.zip
it is in cvs here at ps2dev also
if you don't see files in the browser sound like you are sharing a directory without media files, check your properties files, enable gui or enable log to export a valid media directory

*slaps forehead*gorim wrote:Anyhow, seems this is the second time I ticked off Bigboss. I am honestly not even trying to insult or annoy here, but it seems that several of our Spanish friends become easily upset.
Jeez gorim, didn't you already know from before?
SPAIN IS DIFFERENT
"He was warned..."
It was a direct assault on gorim thinly veiled as a 'tutorial'. It went beyond the normal bickering you see on these forums because it was unprovoked. He didn't actually say anything bad against ps2reality and bigboss took offense.
If I was upset I would have done more than just delete the offending part of his post and thank him for the useful part. I was merely trying to avoid an ugly conflict. I would have done the same if gorim had written the same thing.
I even left the thread unlocked so he'd have a fair chance to respond. If that isn't enough for you, I don't know what to say... its certainly better service than you'd find at most other sites.

Don't worry The_User, give thanks to Krilon he made a nice job with ps2vfs adding some cool features like plugins support , playlist , shoutcast streams for internet radio station and others. Enjoy it. It was a pleasure for me help you.
Oopo sincerely i believe that you are wrong if i need insult someone i can do directly.
Gorim if you or someone need the complete post ask me it in private i don't want to violate these strange Oopo's rules
in the other hand what words included in the tutorial posted are an insult for you Oopo?
ffmpeg,cvs,ps2lib,ps2linux,ee,iop,IPU,friend,ps2dev,trolldev,week,joke

Your rant basically challenged gorim to make a media player in a week. Each step was more sarcastic and caustic than the one before it. It ended with a haughty tone that left the whole tirade as nothing more than a fancy way to say, 'STFU, bizatch.'
I point you to the thread with forum rules ( http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.php?t=17 ), specifically this part:
Again, I thank you for that information and I hope you'll consider offering up more in the future. That's entirely up to you, however.

The part I deleted had no useful information other than the flaming of gorim. I left the rest intact, thanking you for the useful information.2) Flames will be deleted on sight. For the pedantic among us, a flame is any comment that may be considered insulting while containing no useful information other than that flame. You can take a small jab at someone, but make sure its backed up with substance. Like a memory map or something.

well before 1.0 and before sjeep sent me the prerelease of libcdvd, a basic port of ffmpeg using host and naplink was made in 1 week by a plasterer, a computer science student and a telecommunications engineer using the old ps2lib (pre 1.0) so with actual libs you can do it in less time as SCEE tv spot says in Europe Playstation Challenge EverythingooPo wrote:Your rant basically challenged gorim to make a media player in a week. Thank you for your time, march is a good month(my birthday is near) to open the eye finally if i have free timeooPo wrote: Again, I thank you for that information and I hope you'll consider offering up more in the future. That's entirely up to you, however.
bye time to work guys
Ahh, its good to hear someone is having an easy time of the tools and libraries. :)
You do realize that the reason people talk about releasing the source so much is that they want to help you, not take your creation away from you... right? You've written and released something useful on the PS2 - a feat most people haven't achieved yet. That's good, but you really could take it further. There's a lot of talented and skilled people here who would love to lend a hand. Take a look at XBMC on the xbox... a fine example of what many people can do when the project is shared.
In other news, I turn 30 this weekend.

Open source, by definition, cannot be stolen. And everyone knows who wrote the original code. In fact, open source makes the authors even more famous if they wrote a good program. PS2Reality is already kind of famous in the PS2 scene... if it was open sourced, it would become even more famous.ooPo wrote: You do realize that the reason people talk about releasing the source so much is that they want to help you, not take your creation away from you... right? There are so many examples, one just has to look around at today's open source world, and one can see that only good things come from making source open.
The only time one might want to keep the source closed, is for commercial products to protect them from competitors. But PS2Reality is not a commercial product and there really aren't any competitors...
