Yes. We can play DVD discs by the DVD player from SONY.
Is it possible to get VCD data out of a Video-CD disc? I'm new with PS2-linux. So I don't know too many details.
Of course I mean without modchips.
Thanks!

Both J.F. and tmator seem wanting to do this. Give them encouragement. :)

Well, I've tried a few things on my PS2 - CDi and SVCD disc aren't accepted by an unmodded PS2. I need to dig out a VCD to try, but I suspect it's the same. Pretty much, you need a mod or the swap trick to play CDi, SVCD, and probably VCDs on the PS2.
That doesn't mean you shouldn't have support for those in a player. Many people have modded PS2s and would probably like to play (S)VCDs. I intend to have this support in my player and test it with modded PS2 and unmodded using swap disc. Given how well my PS2 plays low bitrate AVIs in PS2Reality, it should kick butt on (S)VCDs.
