Pukklink/Naplink and UMCDR?

Post by ps2programmer »

I have just started whith ps2 programming and are a totaly n00b. I have a ps2 and want to connect it to the PC whith Pukklink or Naplink. The problem is that i don't have a modchip, so i want to use the "UMCDR" thing. I don't understand exacly how to use ut. Is it just to follow the instruktions...

Code: Select all

Create an .iso image using any program capable of making standard .iso (iso9660 filesystem image) files, use padiso.exe (or the padiso frontend 'padisoFE.exe') utility to convert the .iso file into the bin/cue UMCDR image, then burn the bin/cue using any burning software which supports bin/cue images.
...or do i need to change anything in the pukklink or naplink code or somthing? Someone that can create an ISO that's just "ready to burn" whith a program that can burn *.ISO files?
Is it just to put the Pukklink or Naplink in the ps2 and boot or does i need to do any change-ps2-cd-boot-trick, hold-some-buttons-down trick?

UMCDR can only be used if you already have a way to boot homebrew software, such as ps2menu, naplink, or ps2link.

Get those running first, and then you can play around with UMCDR.

get a friend of yours with a modded machine to prep a memory card with ps2link or naplink using the ps2independence and you are all set for development.

You can start ps2link ( and some other small apps ) from the mc without having a modded ps2 yes. and that is all you need for doing homebrew dev or running existing homebrew programs.

Okey, now i have downloaded ps2link-v1.2 and umcdr-Win32. I have copied the padiso.exe to f:\ so i can run it. How do i create a run able cd from here?
The ps2link aplication have a bunch of files. Both *.irx. What is that file for? And the "standard" files (*.elf, *iso and so on).
Do i need to patch the ps2link-v1.2.iso files whith padiso.exe, or should i create a *.iso file, put the ps2link.elf file in that iso, and then patch the *.iso file that i've created?
Whith what program should i burn it, and how? What options?
How do i transfer data to the ps2? I have the cable that came whith it, have it connected to a router and the PC to the router to whith the cable that came whith the router. Have do i get the PS2 IP, and what program should i use to transfer data to ps2? I got Windows XP...
Is it realy possible to get ps2link to self boot on the ps2 whithout any modification, or do i need to run it throug any other ps2 application? How do i create ps2menu and get that to self boot on a non modded ps2 console?

Excuse me for my bad english...i'm swedish...;)
