Hey, I'm REALLY new to the ps2 homebrew scene, though I've been in with the PSP for quite a while, and I know how annoying newbish questions are, but I've read the stickie on homebrew for PS2's, and I have a few questions.

1) Is it possible to download/burn codebreaker and use it on my PS2 (I know the answer is probably no but it's worth a shot)EDIT: I don't have swapmagic.
2) I don't have any gameshark/codebreaker/max software for PS2, nor do I have a network adapter. Is there any way to install the Indy exploit on my ps2 (and yes, I do have a few original ps1 games)

Thanks for your help, and sorry if this is annoying for anyone.

1) No, as that would be software piracy.

2) Sure. Here's some suggestions:

- Get a friend to install the exploit for you.
- Buy a copy of ps2linux and install it yourself.
- Rent a copy of codebreaker/gameshark/whatever.
- Buy and install a modchip.
- Perform a swap trick.

I think I'll just go buy codebreaker later today. Because I have no friends that know how to install the exploit, I'm not sure if I wan't to do ps2linux yet, although I do know my way around a linux system, unfortunatly nobody rent's any codebreaker/gameshark/anything, and I don't want to mod my ps2, I don't have swapmagic or anything to do a swap trick (is there a way to do it without gameshark/swap magic/anything? I understand if you don't want to answer that question.

OK, well I got Code Breaker, I got that launcher up, and I tried to burn a NES (INFONES) emu to a CDRW with a ROM. I tried using cdgenPS2 to make the files into that special kind of .iso then burn them, but it didn't work. I put the infones.elf and the mario.nes file in a folder on the cd called INFONES, but when i try to load them in PS2MENU, it won't see them on the CD. Do I have to name the folder something special?

Without a modchip PS2 wont recognise ANY burned cdroms. cdgenPS2 can sort of get around this, providing the ps2 program knows about the special disk format. Not sure if that launcher does. And if it does, does the emu know about it? It might be looking in the wrong place for the ROM.
Lastly, try regular cdr (ie, not rw) I've heard that ps2 can have troubles reading these, same as how my stereo, or non-burner cddrives, etc cannot read cdrw.

OK, thanks.

Right now I have a 2gb Maxtor harddrive, would all I need to get is a network adapter to get it to work with my ps2? Or would I need to somehow format it correctly? If so, how?

i don't want to act smart or anything, but, wouldn't be easier to play SNES games your PC instead of your PS2?? because i'm having problems connecting my PS2 to my PC so i could kinda help ppl out :))
but since u have a HDD i guess you could plug it in the PC and use some copy software to make it all work... work of advice tho - if your PC can read a HDD - your PS2 can't and vice-versa.... that's why you need a blind-copy software :))) at least that's how i picture it and how i would make it :))

Hmmm, after some reading, I found it's possible to buy a network adapter and plug the HDD into that, like stick the HDD in the ps2, then use the network adapter to connect the PS2 to the LAN, then I could just send stuff straight to my ps2 w/ like X-Port or something, the only problem is I think I need to buy some HDD loader disks to get it formatted correctly so the PS2 can read it...hmm... now all I need to do to have this working is buy a Network Adapter and some HDD loader disks...
