getting started with a hard drive (unmodded)

Post by toast0 »

I've recently aquired a us ps2 (unmodded as far as i know) with an official hard drive (and ff XI). Is there anyway to connect the ps2 hard drive to a PC, put the independence exploit on it and, then put it back in the ps2?

I guess the alternative would be to get a memory card I can write from a PC (like the recent action replay things)

Unless there is a new development concerning putting the PS2Ind exploit
onto harddrives and I have not been aware of it, what you are asking is
not possible.

AFAIK, the PS2Ind exploit is memcard-only. So, you should put your efforts
into finding a way to install it onto the memcard.

There are some pages at this site, and MANY forum topics that discuss
older and newer methods of doing this, so please by all means search
around. Others may repost helpful information in this forum too.

Sorry, I guess I left out the step of copying it from the hard drive to the memory card.

I think you can copy the files involved using the browser, right?, so if you were able to get it onto the hard drive, then you could get it onto a memory card.

The PS2 browser does not have the functionality to copy these files. The
browser actually doesn't copy single files, what you see actually represents
a directory of files. All copying/deleting in the browser is done on entire
directories.

The PS2Ind files in question need to be manipulating into a specific
directory that probably cannot be easily copied.

Furthermore, the presence of the harddrive with Sony's BB HDD
navigator software installed may prevent the exploit from working.

Maybe there is a way this all can be done, but my guess is that using
any of the previously talked about ways to get it on the memcard
would be VASTLY simpler than trying to puzzle this thing out.

I am assuming of course, that you merely want to get the PS2Ind
exploit installed onto your memcard, and you aren't obsessed about
finding a way to do it via the hard drive being pimped between your
PS2 and the PC. There is much information already on the former,
and not much help available for you on the latter.

Yes, you could get the file you want onto memory card first, and then copy it over to the HDD...

Oh wait, we are going in circles... Just follow Gorim's advice, use PS2Link + nPort + save builder to create the exploit on mc. Google for the jeexlabs tutorial (seems to have moved to maxconsole)
