[Idea] Depth Sounder (For Fishing)

Post by Wally »

Hi guys,

How cool would it be if we could use the PSP as an $1000 depth sounder so when we go fishing we can put the camera in the water and have the PSP set up so that it tells us whats under water and how deep it is and maybe the speed we are travelling at too.

Just an idea :) I would have clue how to code anything like this so yeah.

Um, as far as I know, depth sounders don't use cameras. They use echo sounding. Get yourself a hydrophone (not an insignificant chunk of change), some sort of waterproofed speaker, and a psp headset to hack up and you may be in business. The PSP should have plenty of power to do the calculations, (echo_time - emit_time) * 0.5 * speed_of_sound_in_water.

Edit:
You will probably need an amplifier as well.
