Anyone interested in porting Milkytracker to PSP?

Post by indstr »

Milkytracker was recently released as open source. Milkytracker is a music tracking software developed for both PC and also handheld devices like PDA's. If you're not familiar with them, Trackers have their roots in the demoscene of the late 80's and early 90's. Read more on wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trackers

So far, despite several music softwares being written for PSP (PSPSeq, PSPKick, PSPRhythm), none of them have been in the Tracker format.

Here's my original (failed) plea to the developer of Milky to do a PSP port

If this was on PSP, I would use it every day on my lunchbreak at work, since I don't have a laptop.

So... anyone interested? If not, I guess I will need to just pony up and start learning how to code :)

Uh... MilkyTracker (the player portion at least) was ported to the PSP LONG ago. I used to use it all the time on my Phat. The PSP code is in the source archive on their site. Just check the milkyplay/drivers directory and you'll see the PSP drivers.

EDIT: A quick look at the source shows it uses a combination of SDL and posix code to handle the PSP. Just look for "__PSP__" in the code for places where it does PSP specific stuff.

I'm not really interested in that. There's a bunch of mod players on PSP, but not any Trackers.

If someone's interested i could contribute with my simple MIDI message handling library...(don't know if the original software was capable of that, but the great old FastTracker 2 as well as digitracker did...) Let me know

wow, that would be awesome... it could be used with your midi cable right?

i've also pleaded on the milkytracker official forums and it seems the developers already have a version running on PSP, it just doesn't support input. i'm going to give my keyboard to them, but i will mention this midi support to them and see if they think it is viable.

here's the thread there for those interested:
