3rd party duo's shouldn't be more than a few bucks above other flash memory types (not counting CF, which has the best price/capacity ratio.)
The closest apples-apples comparison is with Secure-Digital which is of similar size.

And size is a factor in cost, when you look at how tiny these things are.

I can buy a Sony brand 512MB memstick duo PRO for $60 (with free shipping) regular price.

Circuit city is currently running a sale on 512MB SD cards for $55 (normally $80) Best buy runs the same regular price but their sale price this week is $70.

These SD prices are pretty common, so I don't see why you are complaining about duos being expensive when you can buy a duo pro for what most people buy an SD card on sale for.

For completeness sake, I can find the same SD cards I named the prices for for only $42 w/free shipping, but most people don't know how to look that well ;) So yes, there is a price difference...

And yes, flash memory is too damn expensive in general. Learn to shop around and you can get a better price though.

the problem is that flash cards are all too expensive.

i could get a 120GB HDD for the price of a 1GB dup pro card

Now I remember when my 4Mb RAM expansion for my Amiga cost me near-on £200! Not to mention my 80Mb HD setting me back £250... -
and that was considered cheap!

I paid $700 for a 40MB hard drive for my Atari ST in 1988. I don't want to hear anyone complaining about the price of memory cards! :D.

yeah, they really are expensive! damn flash memory...but it's nothing compared to what you guys payed for your storage needs back then haha
