Proper Image Reproduction

Post by MindWall »

When developing homebrew, how do you simulate the PSP’s screen output?

If I’m making a background image, after I’m satisfied with the result on my colour profiled monitor I adjust the gamma to 0.6, and sometimes add a small saturation increase to match the reproduced image by the PSP.

Without colour/gamma correction when simulating PSP’s screen you will most probably end up with unsatisfactory results, so I was wondering how you deal with the issue?

On the side:
Actually I was wondering why the posted screen shots of PSP games (on game web pages) look so unimpressive and dark, but I think this is the simple answer. I guess no one bothered to convert back the gamma, even when officially promoting their own products.
Not to mention that there was a screenshot from the FF-Advent Children that was posted directly ProPhoto colour space, (of course without ICC profiled being specified)… which makes me wonder if the AVC decoding uses wide colour space…

Here is my current background image:
(not using square pixel to achieve higher perceived resolution, you should not be able to see the watermark on the left side when you look it on your monitor, however you will see it on the PSP’s screen)
