Getting ta-082 unstuck.

Post by Khaner »

I'm on 3.40oe on a TA board. I'm trying to go back to official firmware for several reasons, one being I own a ps3.

Anyway got a couple of questions. I know we're stuck...isn't there a way to get Chilly Willy's Key cleaner to clean all keys including 5?

Another find was this instruction on how to do it. But im not sure of the validity of it...I figure maybe I could get better help here since this is a much more DEV. savy board than the rest. Thanks in advance!

------------------------------------------------------------

In order to return your TA-082/86 PSP to a state that will allow you to install official Sony Firmware updates, you have to have your idstorage keys the way they were before you used a downgrader. ChillyWilly’s keycleaner app will return most keys to their normal state. It usually only leaves 1 key corrupted. The creator of the KeyCleaner app did this on purpose in order to not allow people to go back to official firmware. The key that is need for homebrew is Key 0x0005 and that is the key that ChillyWilly’s Keycleaner app leaves corrupted.

Step 1: Clean as many keys as you can using Key Cleaner under OE fw

Step 2: Revert to 2.71 OFW using recovery mode by placing the 2.71 update in the recovery folder.

Step 3: Next you have to load HEN D in order to enable homebrew to run under 2.71. Now you can run KeyCleaner under HEND. Restoring keys from the memory stick will ensure all of your keys are restored from the ones that came with your PSP. Restoring them without using the memory stick usually works but it can only restore keys that have been shuffled around, NOT any ones that were deleted. Assuming you were able to restore your keys properly, that leaves just key 5 in the "patched"(ie, the hombrew) state.

Step 4: You can then revert key 5 by running the 1.5 Enabler from the corruption-free 2.71 downgrader package via HEND, then use the hidden "revert" feature - when on the screen that says the PSP has been 1.5 enabled, press SQUARE and it will undo the key 0x0005 patching. You'll be back on the screen saying a TA-082/86 can't run homebrew with the keys as they are. This is exactly what you want.

Step 5: Exit the program and restart your PSP. After that, just update using the network update icon or download the 3.50 update (or any official update for that matter) and you are back on the Sony boat.

EDIT: DON'T FORGET to fix the other idstorage keys using KeyCleaner FIRST!!! This will fix the corruption performed by other downgraders such as the one by Dark_Alex and n00bz.

Haha, I'm pretty sure this is not true. That key needs to stay modified or the 1.5 firmware can't boot up properly. "cleaning" that key is disabled so people don't brick their downgraded PSPs.

The rest of it looks convoluted but makes sense, I guess.

ta-082+ need a corrupted key 5 to run otherwise u end up with a new brick for your house but 3.(something)+ updaters check for corrupted keys and refuse to run if they find them. be carefull not to get stuck somewhere in between 3.03 and 3.5 with corrupted keys as you wont be able to change firmware untill iluminati has been ported to that firmware

If you read through Chilly's posts, you see clearly that KeyCleaner was meant for cleaning up keys whacked by old downgraders so that custom firmware users have fewer problems, and that 5 is always patched to prevent bricks. You also find in posts that Chilly knowingly added the "hidden" un-patcher to 1.5 Enabler because he knew some people would want to go back to official 3.30+ firmware. It was hidden for the same reason that KC always patches key 5 - to prevent bricks. Anyone who asked was told of the "hidden" feature, so guides on going back to Sony firmware include how to use that. If he didn't want to allow people to go back, he certainly wouldn't have included the source code to all his stuff. Even if there wasn't an un-patcher, it could have been added easily by someone else.

Oh, the procedure above is correct. The main point is that 2.71 will work with both screwed up and good keys, so you want to use 2.71 + HEN to get the keys back to their original state (un-patch key 5). At that point, the regular 3.30+ updaters work fine.
