Ver 4 PS2 wont play backed-up PSX games!

Hey guys,

I know this is a dev forum but I can't think of any other forums to post for help in!

so here's my problem:

I've been following this video to get back ups to work on my friends ps2.

It works perfectly for his ps2 (not sure what version), but I just got a hold of a "broken" ps2 yesterday. It wouldn't read any discs.

I opened up the ps2 and adjusted the laser by 2 click and it will play all games now perfectly. the only problem is when I try to do what this guy does in the video to get the back ups running, My ps2 freezes on the playstation logo EVERYTIME!

I know Im doing the procedure correctly cause ive done it 100 times on my friends ps2.

if anyone could please help me, it would be beyond appreciated.
