Well, you'll have to pay the price for the full bundle then:

Well, the EBAY link is now invalid so it looks like EBAY probably cancelled the auction.

Post by jjay »

Here is the link that works .... start price 50,00 USD
That is strange ... very cheap... (a student can buy a new one for 99 euros.)

And one thing I'm wondering is will it work with a european ps2 :?:

Thats not a devkit and is not what was linked to in the original post...

EDIT: Oops.. counted too many zeros ;)

you can buy a new one for $100 right now.

And for the last time, ps2linux is not the devkit. It does put you in a position to be able to write code and have it run on a ps2, but it is not a devkit.

The devkit the original link was pointing to was the TOOL dev machine official developers have.

Being a NTSC dev kit, I'd assume the Linux disks would not load on the euro PS2, but I would like the think the network adapter, HDD and all other accessories would be compatible.

While it is only $100US for the kit, it retails for $300AUD here in Australia. Before the mark down, it was $500AUD. So yes, compared to the AU and EUR prices, 50.00US is quite an attractive price to the foreigners it is no good for. Definately a bit overpriced for the local US market.

It's not a terrible price, either -- HDD, net, kb, mouse, and the useless sync-on-green vga connector.

The net adaptor is still about US$40 retail here; figure about another $40 for the HDD -- hard to compare prices, since no one sells 40G drives anymore. This leaves $20 for a nice USB keyboard and mouse, which is an OK price.

Plus the kb & mouse have the PS2 logo on them, which is worth a little in the coolness department. And there's no "windows key" -- that's worth something too.

... so you get the linux OS and RTE for free ;-)

The auction says it doesn't come with the network adaptor.

Yeah, only Sony could make us feel grateful for the privilege of being able to buy a free OS...

Huh? People don't feel grateful for the priveledge of buying Red Hat, Suse, or Mandrake Linux? Perhaps they feel guilty instead.

But yeah, take away the HDD, network adapter, keyboard, mouse, and least important of all, RTE boot loader - man Sony is stiffing folks over Linux I tell ya! :P
