ScummVM-PSP Beta 4
Hey, I am getting a crash bug in The Dig with beta 4. Hope this is a good place to post it, couldn't find anywhere else really.
It's happened twice, I am thinking it may just happen after a set time, but I can't be sure. Was looking at one of the metal plates the last time.
Wanted to let you guys know, thanks again for Scumm on the PSP!

monkey island 3
has anyone been able to play monkey island 3? it seems just a tad to big to fit on a 1gb memory stick :(
@Wulfie: re monkey island 3 (COMI) - yes, a number of people have.
I've written a full tutorial for compressing the files for use on PSP which i had posted at another forum, but here it is for anyone who didn't know how to do this. (As many people will tell you there are issues with playing games with compressed sound and animations - read up about it here and elsewhere).
TUTORIAL:- Compressing “The Curse of Monkey Island” and playing it on your PSP.
(Tutorial written assuming you have v1.5 firmware) - Written By PSPSwampy 24/07/2005.
Required:-
1. a PC
2. a PSP with firmware v1.5 (or v1, but this tutorial is designed for 1.5)
3. an original (bought) copy of “The Curse of Monkey Island” (monkey island 3)
4. a copy of SCUMMVM-PSP BETA3 (or higher!!! use beta4 for best performance)
5. a copy of SCUMMVMQ+E (for PC) get it at www.mixnmojo.com
6. a copy of LAME.EXE (which comes in the ‘scummvm tool pack’ from www.scummvm.org but you can probably find it elsewhere using google)
This tutorial assumes you already have the beta3 version of scummvm installed on your psp and you know how to “install” games for it (for info on this read the readme that comes with it and browse the net – its pretty basic so I won’t go into it here).
Here we go…
1. Copy files (listed below) from both CD’s onto your PC (in this example, I’m copying to C:\COMI\ directory
You should have ALL of the following files in your C:\COMI\ directory:-
COMI.LA0 (From cd1 or 2)
COMI.LA1 (From cd1)
COMI.LA2 (From cd2)
Plus a folder “RESOURCE” which should contain the following files:-
BBSAN.SAN (From cd1)
CURSERNG.SAN (From cd1)
FG010GP.SAN (From cd1)
FONT0.NUT (From cd1 or 2)
FONT1.NUT (From cd1 or 2)
FONT2.NUT (From cd1 or 2)
FONT3.NUT (From cd1 or 2)
FONT4.NUT (From cd1 or 2)
KIS030.SAN (From cd2)
LANGUAGE.TAB (From cd1 or 2)
LAVARIDE.SAN (From cd2)
LIFTCRSE.SAN (From cd2)
MORESLAW.SAN (From cd2)
MUSDISK1.BUN (From cd1)
MUSDISK2.BUN (From cd2)
NEWBOOTS.SAN (From cd1)
OPENING.SAN (From cd1)
SB010.SAN (From cd1)
SB020.SAN (From cd1)
SINKSHP.SAN (From cd1)
VOXDISK1.BUN (From cd1)
VOXDISK2.BUN (From cd2)
WRECKSAN.SAN (From cd2)
ZAP010.SAN (From cd2)
2. Now we need to compress the music, speech and animation files (*.SAN & *.BUN) to do this we will need the tools that come with SCUMMVMQ+E – you will need to download these if you have not already done so…
I. Load up SCUMMVMQ+E
II. Click on the “Update” button and select “Daily Build” – this will download the tools required for the compression.
3. Now that you have the tools we need to make take a copy of the following tools (from the tools directory which is in the same folder as your copy of SCUMMVMQ+E) and place them all in the C:\COMI\RESOURCE\ directory.
“compress_san.exe”
“compress_scumm_bun.exe”
“Lame.exe” (from the scummvm tool pack you downloaded separately)
I. Now we need to move the files around a bit… Move all .SAN & .BUN files into a new folder called “Original”, which you need to create within the “Resource” folder. Create another new folder called “Compress” within the “Resource” folder.
II. We will now compress the files… Create a new TXT file within the “Resource” folder call it what ever you want, but in this example I will call mine “GO Compression.TXT” edit this with notepad and paste in the following:-
III. Now save the TXT file and then rename it from “GO Compression.TXT” to “GO Compression.BAT” – this changes it to a batch file which can be run.
IV. Run (double click) the .bat file you just created – you will see some nice dos text scrolling and changing – this will run for quite a while (about 20mins, probably slightly more). It is extracting the info from the .bun and .san files and recompressing it to MP3 format and then recompiling it into a new file (in the “compress” folder). When it is finished you will get a message “ALL DONE!!!!!” and be prompted to “Press any key to continue”.
V. Once completed copy the NEW (Smaller) files from the “Compress” folder back into the “resource” folder and delete the folders “Compress” and “original” – they are no longer required.
Note: For all the .SAN files, once compressed you will have a .SAN and a .MP3
(eg. BBSAN.SAN, compresses down to BBSAN.SAN & BBSAN.MP3)
VI. Now remove the Compression tools from the resource folder
“compress_san.exe”
“compress_scumm_bun.exe”
“Lame.exe”
and “GO Compression.bat”
4. Now copy the COMI folder to you PSP (assuming you have about 450mb spare!) and play it!
p.s. you can get better performance for the cutscenes by NOT compressing the .SAN files (just take that bit out of the 'code' above
HOPE this helps??

Definetly the wrong place to ask this question... but I gotta admit you have a fine taste in games. Torin's Passage is one of the most fun adventure games I've ever played.worldspawn wrote:Blah.. I whish I could play Torin's Passage with SCUMMVM. Can this game ever be supported? I have no idea what engine it uses...

X-Wing for PSP
I was wondering if it would be possible to put X-Wing for windows 95 on my psp. and if you can do it like in this tutorial would anyone know what files would need to be compressed?
Re: X-Wing for PSP
I don't think X-wing uses the Scumm engine. It's more for the 2D adventure stuff.BorderPatrol89 wrote:I was wondering if it would be possible to put X-Wing for windows 95 on my psp. and if you can do it like in this tutorial would anyone know what files would need to be compressed?
Monkey Island 3 is sometime slow (slow fps) like when you hit boats with the cannon. It should be great to switch to 333mhz cpu clock for those scene. (Or maybe use the psp vpu if not done already)
Also, Full Throttle is not stable , it crash a lot of time , yeah beta time ;) but i think it came from the ogg vorbis support. It does not handle it good , guys use mp3 instead.
Anyway, it's so good to play MI , FT and other game on PSP , thx a lot for hard work

Our port is now part of the official ScummVM tree.
So from now on, all bugs can (and should) be reported to the ScummVM bug tracker, if you want them looked at/fixed.
A good bug report contains all necessary info (i.e. that you're using the PSP version, which ScummVM version it is, which build date it has, a detailed description of the problem and how to reproduce it, and if at all possible a nearby savegame, and any other information that might be relevant (e.g. did it work in a previous version, does it work with a recent PC build?)).
As for what we did/are doing:
Paolo wrote a nice virtual keyboard that you'll find in future releases, and we've done a ton of cleanup so it could be committed to official ScummVM CVS, but other than that not much work has been done since the last beta.
The priorities currently are with fixing bugs (FT crashes) and hopefully some COMI speedups.

No, I don't have a large enough memory stick so I haven't tested The Dig.The_Who wrote:I have this problem too. Even with beta 5. Any idea how to bypass the error and finish the game?
What you could do, if you want to see it fixed, is go here and help us track down the bug.
This involves trying the EBOOT.PBP that's linked, and reporting the details from the exception screen.
Wjat about Grim Fandango?
Grim Fandango was another great 2D adventure from lucasarts......Could someone write a tutorial for that one? And can someone also actually make a list of the scumm engine games? id like to know if Mechwarrior 3 is a possibility seeing as how it was dos driven

Could somone please still make a list of all the games the used scumm engine? Or was it limited to the few that was already listed on like page 3 of this forum?
Re: could someone still make a list of all scumm engine game
Wouldn't that list be on the ScummVM website?Balefor wrote:Could somone please still make a list of all the games the used scumm engine? Or was it limited to the few that was already listed on like page 3 of this forum?

Hi, is the any chance of someone getting the CD32 version of Simon The Scorcer working?
I have it loading up, but the graphics are messed up. I know its nothing to do with AGA Chipset as the game is designed to run on a Full ECS Amiga. So it has to be scumm, causing the graphics issue.
Would really like this working as I have just found my original CD32 CD (Chris Barrie Talking Version). Which I never got round to finishing when I was a kid, be nice to finish it on PSP, ;-)
Any help would be great,
Thanks
