Dreamcast/Gamecube

Post by turkeyman »

Hey guys,

the PSP and PS2 toolchain's are totally awesome.. It couldnt be easier to get a dev environment for these respective console's happening...

I'm wondering, does anyone know of any similar environments for Dreamcast and Gamecube? (More importantly, Dreamcast)

There are binary distributions floating around, but they dont work most of the time, and they have issues with newlib, and loads of other problems..

It would be nice to find a toolchain build script that *just works* like these PS2 and PSP ones..

Any ideas?

This web site has in the past only investigated the Playstation2. Recently, the site has expanded to include the PSP. I'm sure there are plenty of web sites which have communities around other consoles. Personally, I don't know them. This site sucks up enough of my time. :)

If you can't find what you're looking for and find some people willing to contribute some libraries, code, compiler modifications, etc. Send me a message and I can organise some subversion hosting for you. Please, only if you're serious and have people interested in developing the code in these areas.

Dreamcast has a huge community of it's own.

Instead of me trying to remember and ramble off the best sites to go to, I recommend logging into #dreamcastdev on freenode sometime and ask around a bit in there.

Ok, I'll ramble off one... www.boob.co.uk

well firstly, i placed it in 'Off-Topic' .. which seems appropriate..
and its definately dev related..

i dont see why it should be locked..
however this is a tangent, and if this continues, it probably should be locked ;)

mind you, i would still like to hear from anyone here who is, or has been involved in Dreamcast or Gamecube dev..

Sorry, I was assuming they called this the "PS2"dev forum, for a reason.

But guess I was wrong.

Hey I'm thinking about developing games for my old Macintosh Classic 2, do you think it would be appropriate to talk about that here? :)

I think you'll find this is the 'Off-Topic Discussion' forum.. and you're not being very productive.
Start your own thread if you want to talk about Mac Classic II dev..

The reason i ask about DC/GC dev here, is that the toolchain/build environment (a modified GCC+newLib) and runtime hardware/technology is all very similar..

Also, being relatively similar generation consoles, anyone interested in PSP and/or PS2 dev may very well have an interest in additional consoles aswell.

Don't feed the trolls...

qwed88 is about one post away from getting banned anyway.
