System.listDirectory()

Does any one know how this works?
When I do this:

listdir = System.listDirectory&#40;&#41;
table.foreach&#40;listdir, print&#41;

All the values are some thing like this:

table: 0x89a6b78

Nevermind, ignore the above.
Now I need to know how come every indice of listdir is an empty table.

maybe it should be something like so..

System.listDirectory( path )

I think if you don't have the path it just does the current directory.
