thanks to all :)
What does this mean: "Error: pmp_file_open: invalid tot_size"
this indicate an invalid file (maybe a truncated file or a file with a corrupted header)
you should verify if there are error messages after muxing and if the transferred file have the correct length
I was wondering how far do you think you are from having this program be able to resize video. In this way we wouldn't have to encode divx or xvid files we may already have, but in the non compliant size
i think i should get at least +10fps to enable arbitrary resolution videos
the next version will *probably* have a big speed boost (let's see how much :)

Finished my tests regarding VBR MP3 @ 128kbs.

Sound quality is now very good using V2.00 - Yes the high pitch background noise is still there - although its much more faint using VBR audio.

@ 128kbs VBR (which equates to 160kbs CBR IMHO) the player handles decoding effortlessly and the audio quality difference is very noticable when compaired to CBR @ 128kbs!

Well done Jonny - This new release is SUPERB!

@Jonny

Could you please create a plugin to play pmp files in any windows media player ??

Edit:
The muxer does not mux my vbr audio files, it says "44100khz !" although they are 44,1khz forced by Besweet.... for sure...

Hello m8

I had the same problem a while back - besweet seems to have a bug forcing some filetypes.

Use the belight 0.21 front end package - and VBR will be good to go.

Hey Jonny, is it possible to create a program to take a PMP movie and convert it to an MP4, extract the AVI and MP3 from the PMP or create an AVI with its audio attached. My reasoning is that I am considering upgrading and would like to take my PMP collection with me. Any ideas? Thanks.

Yes, i second that. In some cases a PMP Demuxer would be very handy.

Jonny - fantastic update - VBR joint stereo works ace now and produces excellent quality sound, even at 96kbps.

@Alcahest and JFox

A demuxer would be useful yes, but if you are considering upgrading your PSP beyond 1.5 and want to use the reconverted files, you do realise that mp4 files cannot be the same resolution as .pmp to work on the PSP?

Sony crippled the internal media player so that the maximum resolution of movies on memory stick must fit into 76800 pixels - roughly 368x208 at optimal widescreen (stretched) resolution (presumably so the lower quality would encourage UMD movie sales).

The whole point of PMP player is to play native res 480x272. If you want to convert to mp4 you'd have to re-encode anyways....

If you meant something else - my apologies.

In my case, it is something different.
Let's say I have encoded a PMP with xvid video and mp3 audio.
And then I want to substitute this mp3 audio by mp3 vbr for exemple; then with a demuxer, i can reuse the video track, encode my mp3 vbr separtely, and remux with PMP Muxer.
This is why a PSP Demuxer would be handy for me.

Thats a very good point - I have a shed load of PMP V1 CBR's that i'd like to re-soundtrack. The difference in quality is now so noticable.

I'd love to be able to do an ac3 re-rip - demux the original .pmp - and add VBR to the original encode.

All the best

Thanks for the replys, I understand the limitations that I will be giving up going from PMP back to MP4. In most cases, the PMP videos have been cropped left and right to create the full screen. When you encode to PMP and keep the aspect ratio you have lost the full screen resolution due to the black bars. So MP4's would be about the same unless I'm missing some info.

Hi m8

All 1:1:85 aspect ratio movies resize to full 480x272 without any cropping.

While I can see your point of view regarding not using the 272 height because of other ratios - Its still far better for detail to watch a movie like this - than be crippled with a 360x240, which when zoomed looks like pure sh*t.

So sony formatted mp4's will never be 'about the same'

What does this mean: "Error: pmp_file_open: invalid tot_size"
i forgot to mention that the muxer doesn't check for writing errors while creating the pmp, so if you have a low amount of free disk space, this could be also the cause

Hello Jonny,

Very very Nice Job with your 2.00 version... I enjoy it a lot !
Did you succeed to contact the other PSP video Player developper ?
Anyway, thanx a lot and now I'm waiting with serenity a new Yummy release of yours.... :)

Ps : just asking : is .PMP format is very different from .MKV format ?
And what's your next plan... ? (I'm looks like a paparazzi right now, I want a scoop ! ? ;) Arf anyway...

Bravo !

Hey Johnny,
I dunno whats the matter but PMP simply doesn't start for me. It goes to a black screen with white text for a split second and quickly reverts back to the PSP system menu before i can even read the text. I can vaguely see it say something like "press home to exit, and press x to play, and press square to see the license"

i'm using pmp_mod_2_00_mm2

its not the empty Video folder error either so...yes

thanks

Discuss the mod in the other thread...
Try the official 2.00 and if you got some problem discuss it here...
Have you a FW 1.5 Jap ?

Now i'm using pmp_mod_2_00_FULL and the same problem is coming up.

The same screen flashes for like half a second and then it reverts to the system menu.

Not using Jap 1.5 Firmware.

Firmware 1.5 North American
I never touched the firmware ever since I got it (in NYC).

Everything else works. e.g.: Loaders, Emulators, AFKIM, etc.
Just can't seem to get PMP to start

PMP Mod 2.00 flashes the black screen
but the modded version (mm) shows a blue screen for a second or so.
Both versions revert back to the system menu regardless.

@qpkaj1

Take an empty stick, format, just copy PMPMod and your pmp files of course.

Also try different sticks.

And in the end, try different pmp files.

I had the case some apps didn´t work with certain other apps on the stick.... also I had errors on the stick caused by the card writer (??)

I am making a list of results as I try things out.
I decided to put your demo video as the file in my video folder.

Results:
Woot! The demo i got from your link works.
PMP mod 1.02 - shows black screen for a second and then reverts back to the system menu.
PMP mod 1.01 - Same thing happens.
PMP mod 1.00 - Same thing happens...again.
PMP mod 0.02 - Oh it loads! But it doesn't recognize the .pmp file format. (I assume it is supposed to take native .avi's)

I'm not gonna bother with the mods. If the core doesn't work, the mods arent going to either.

jonny: don't you think performance can be improved a bit by taking out the -g debug flag from the Makefiles ?

@pkjai1:
is your "home" key working correctly?
(also cross, when the video folder is empty)
(home is used to exit the player)

@JockyW:
i have no idea :) i'll try later in the evening
(for sure it's not needed)
