Call for confirmation of MC exploit fix in V11+

Post by Guest »

For reference, here is the old topic where I recounted my travails with
a new ly purchased SCPH-50000 from last May.

http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.php?t=516&start=0

I later found out the mainboard was a GH-029, which has been dubbed V11.
In the thread, I recounted how the PS1 driver appears to be an updated
version compared to that of anyone else who replied in the thread, at least,
those that checked the version.

There is more buzz in various scene boards about the MC exploit being
fixed, but so far it has been anecdotal. My own situation is but one datapoint,
not likely to be a fluke, but nothing to be stated conclusively either.

So, I would like to reopen this as a specific topic. Do we have enough
general confirmation of this ?

I would like to ask questions like this:

On a newly purchased, unmodified PS2, does the MC exploit work ?
If not:
1. What is your PS1 driver rev ? (check from the browser screen)
2. US, JPN, Asia, Europe model ?
3. Are you able to know your mainboard revision ?

I would just like to have this settled once and for all, since this would
be an important issue for dev efforts. The MC exploit is perhaps the
easiest way to do dev on the PS2, although other ways do exist.

I dont have any specifics on the ps1 driver or anything but yes, from all accounts the exploit has been removed.

I got this box 2 weeks ago from a fresh stock:

SCPH-50006 (Asian version)
Playstation Driver 1.11
exploit works

mrbxp works with slight modification on the payload source code 'cos the ROM version of this box returns "H" but it hunts BIDATA-SYSTEM.

Hey dynamike, can you confirm whether or not your PS2 is a V11 ?

You need to open it up and look for GH-029 on the motherboard. If
you mainboard rev is GH-029 then you have a V11.

If you can:t do that, then your posting is inconclusive.

Thanks for checking. :)

no 50006 and 7 are still v9 consoles and are rather old these days. I dont believe there has been a new asian revision(i said asia, not japan).Asian consoles have small differences. they are more like mutations than vastly different consoles and come in either ntsc or pal yet have the "J" designations just like their japanese counterparts. I have a 5k7 and the exploit works. Most asian countries however, still pull in the japanese consoles and sell those instead of the asian ones.

Ep Gorim !

Considering the information you have gathered, wouldn't you make somewhere a little table with all the PS2 versions/drivers/exploit vulnerability/region... ?

I'd like to buy a day a used PS2 for spare... for my future days when coding on the PS2 will become oldsk00l :D

thx in advance !

Huuuummmm, just thinking about those [future] times makes me feeling strange.... as today you can find in some forums teenagers feeling oldsk00l with "look at my pentium 200 !!! A true oldies !" but for sure it has already happened... I'm feeling proud of continuing playing with 80's computers but I met people doing the same with 60's computers and the did not see a huge difference between a C64 and a PC...

baaah, do you remember the 80's movie Short Circuit ??? Eh eh that's the same for the PS2, that's "feeling inside" !!! A true Emotion Engine ;-)
