exploit questions

Post by offonoffoffonoff »

I was all ready to start deving and i realized i had mis understood how the exploit works. Just to clarify: A ps2 and an ethernet thingy are not all you need to start. you need some kind of cheat device that lets you write to the memory card from your computer if you want to use the exploit. is this right?

I don't have anything like that, nor really the resources to get it. So, i see two options that are somewhat affordable:

1) If i can find someone in my town with a mod chip, then can i have them set up a memory card for me? I'm not entirely sure how this would work, i think i saw it mentioned briefly in one of the 20 something articles i read on the independance exploit.

2) Maybe someone in the ps2dev community would help me out. I could send them a memory card, they set up the exploit for me, and mail it back. That would be pretty cheap i think, as cards are pretty small.

is there an option that i've left out?

apologies for running over the same information again, but there's lots of contradictory information out there. And the details for what is needed are spread out all over the place.

thanks in advance for information or physical assistance.

That is accurate. Once you have the exploit installed on a memory card, you can update the files on the memory card without needing the exploit again. Just to clarify: you do have an old "fat" ps2 and the PS1 game necessary to use the exploit, right? This won't work on new slim ps2s.

I would be happy to install the exploit on your card if you want. Send me a PM if you're interested.

much thanks to SSpear,

I deleted a post that bordered on whining because i kept running into dead links for the toolchain. but, upon further inspection i've solved some of my own problems.

I'm glad to see loser's toolchain install for win32 (www.xorloser.com) includes the old cygwin dll as the new one doesn't work. that, and my lack of an internet connection on my dev station were worrying me. download complete. I'm going home to play with my new toys.

no questions here, only gratitude.

thanks all,
