PSP microphone amplification

Hi all!
I've a question. I built my homemade set of microphone/headset but I was wondering if I can put a preamplification stage between the microphone in and the PSP remote.
Cuould this damage the remote?

Before you go to the trouble, try connecting the microphone ground to
the right channel (tip terminal of the 3.5mm plug) instead of the common
ground for audio out... (ie. the tutorials out there, including my own is wrong).

I knew they had a trick, and had to destroy the Socom headset for it.

Hey Art,
I have also build a homemade connector so I can connect the socom headset and a GPS receiver at a time, so I don't need to switch between the two.
It's connected like this: picture
but somehow it doesn't work.
The GPS connection and audio output is OK but the amplitude of the microphone input is way too low. I'm testing it with my testprogram I already provided in another thread here. It works when I connect the headset with the original remote, but not with my homemade connector.
Can you (or maybe someone else) tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Ignore what I said in the second post there, it turned out to be crap I think.
That's what happens when you use an LED as a continuity tester.

There is still better quality from the genuine PSP microphone, than any DIY arrangement.

In answer to your question, I asked lteixeira about connecting a mic straight
to the connector, and he said it couldn't be done because the remote tells the
PSP that the mic is connected, and also provides pre-amplification for it.

Also, I went ahead and tried using all unknown connectors to see if it would
work without a remote, and it didn't.

There is a routine/function/feature in his original test program which I still
don't have, it tells you on the screen if you have a mic connected. I guess
that info comes from the remote.

Also, I purchased the genuine Socom FTB game to get the genuine headset,
and although it doesn't provide the remote, the manual says that you
need the remote to use the microphone headset.

So I don't think you're getting audio in + SIO in the same app because
the remote is constantly using the serial port even without the mic connected.

That is intriguing, it sounds like a hardcore program to require GPS
and audio in at the same time.

Not really that great, just something like a "computer, are we there yet?" while walking home thing ;)

What about that device called the "Talkman" that plugs into the usb? Could a microphone be connected to the usb port, or has the Talkman not been reverse engineered yet?
