ISO ripping

Post by Art »

Hi,
For starters there are enough ISO tools out there (fastloader),
the only reason I'd write another one is for my own education.

I suppose this thread will be locked if need be.

From looking at an ISO file with a hex editor,
I gather that it is a file that contains every continuous byte from the
start of the disc to the end of the disc, which would ignore whatever filesystem is present on the UMD.

How is it possible to do this when the UMD samples use sceio to access UMDs?

I don't support warez, I own the two UMD games that I currently play.
I do want to understand an ISO ripper, and particularly the format.
The answer probably shouldn't be posted here anyway so forget it.

Just because you own the UMD and do not support piracy, others dont.

Locked, because well... obvious reasons.
I won't ban or anything since it does seem like Art really does want it for academic purposes, rather than warez.
But if you want to investigate this kind of thing, it's probably best to do it in private.
