Ethernet port not properly working with ps2link

Post by Zapek »

Ok, so I'm trying to use the network to upload executables.

I run PS2Link 1.24. 192.168.1.9 as IP, 255.255.255.0 as mask, 192.168.1.32 as gateway. I see it on the screen when I run PS2Link so this is ok.

Next I try to send files using ps2client 2.0.0 from a linuxbox. It only worked once (then it complained about the path but that was my fault) and I never managed to get it to work again, so I rebooted, ran PS2Link again and tried to ping the host.

65% packet loss.. hum.

So, I reboot with the Central Station CD. Connect and try ping. 0% packet loss this time. Network seems fine.

I suppose there's a different network driver being used (ps2ip.irx?). I noticed on http://playstation2-linux.com/ they warn about recent PS2 and problems with linux' ethernet driver. My PS2 is fairly recent (SCPH-50004 so I think this is a v9). Could it be my problem?

Any hint greatly appreciated, thanks.

65% packet loss sounds like a duplex problem, if you can set your hub/switch/pc ( crossover ) 100/full do so.

It's a 10/100 switch. All other machines are set to 100/full without any problem.

yes but that doesnt mean that the autonegotiation on the ps2 cant fail (or get confused ). packet drops in an ethernet lan is typically duplex problems and/or bad cables.

I have also had bad experiences with my old ps2linux smap & my 50k machine.

When using ps2link, the adapter/driver usually hung after a couple of seconds of traffic. The combo seemed to work ok with games.

Havent had time to look into it though (and all works ok with the new smap that I have).

Ok. I checked out ps2eth/smap/smap.c
Do you know if the workaround from linux' smap.c is in there? I didn't find an old version of linux' smap.c to make a diff.
