CDr,Dvd HoMeBrEw BOOT?
CDr,Dvd HoMeBrEw BOOT?
Is there a way for ps2 to read homebrew directly from a cdr or dvd, instead of memory cards... To me it seems logical, but im no specialist. For a long time ive been depriving myself from sleep... Please tuck me into bed (NO KISS NECESSARY)
CHASE AKA chase
The answer I'm always given is yes/no, but there is no point for this [anyways]. Go do something that REALLY needs a CD and someone will tell you [if it's possible], but for normal coding (especially learning), it makes the most sense to send things over ethernet [anyways], it gives you more control (least I think so). Also of course there are LEGAL issues with the booting, although you can try to fight these by using examples like that lexmark printing trial, nothing directly touches on stuff like this and well... ps2dev is a happy legal place.
I probably should just be letting other people respond to this, but it's 7:16 am, and I'm getting sick of POV-Ray =p
Oh, and of course you can read it off of the CD AFTER starting with the memory card, but I'm guessing the above is what you meant.

If you have a modchip, sure. If you don't have a modchip, no.

What don't you understand in the word "no" ?If you have a modchip, sure. If you don't have a modchip, no.

The cdrom controller does disc authentication on its own, regardless of where you're booting from. This means that unless the inserted disc is official the cdrom controller won't let you read from it. So, you need a modchip to get around this otherwise you're not going to be able to even read from the disc - let alone boot from it.
That said, why do you need to boot from a cdrom when you can easily run anything, outside of warez, from a memorycard or over the network?

pixel... you can read off cd can't you? just burn UDMA or whatever and even ps2menu supports reading off of it.
Am I wrong here? he did say AFTER memory card. So if you use memory card to run ps2menu you can run anything you want off of cd if you burn it right.

Should have everything you need.
Unless I'm terribly wrong... o-O

UMCDR is no more. Its author explicitely asked for it to never be used anymore.

As long as they don't use his code byte for byte and he doesn't have a patent on the technique, no one needs his permission. They don't even need to credit him. Credit would only be due if they used his code with permission.mrbrown wrote:It got out of his control, and other developers started using it without going through him first.

But he is still in his full right to revoke his code, so your statement is useless, which seems to be a common case.J.F. wrote:As long as they don't use his code byte for byte and he doesn't have a patent on the technique, no one needs his permission. ps2 CD
hi!
Here's how I did it without a MOD.
Download MC Loader.
Put it on your MC. (I don't have to tell you how to do that, do I?)
Here's the tricky part...
Load MC loader
eject the CD drive
See the 2 screws?(bottom of tray)
take them out and the front of the tray will come off.
Get something like a knife...(preferably plastic metal+electricity=bad)
put in an original ps2 cd
use the knife-like thing to move the small white pin (under the tray) up.
The disc drive should pop out...
pull it the rest of the way, gently.
replace the ps2 cd with your burnt one.
push the disc tray in again slowly.
find the white pin and push it down.
you should hear the drive grab the CD.
press x to play
P.S. Be careful (it can wreck the ps2, it probably won't but it can)
