ps2 homebrew on a ps3?

Post by DracoLacertae »

Has anyone been successful running PS2 homebrew apps on a PS3?

I've tried via the ps2 linux RTE, but that doesn't boot on a ps3. I was kind of surprised, since it should just be a 'game' disc. It even had a special error message for me that I've never seen when booting a normal game.

I've also tried via a codebreaker disc, but the ps3 won't even boot that either.

Does PS2 action replay max boot on the ps3? If it does, it might be able to boot ps2 homebrew apps on the ps3.

For the moment it seems we should all hang on to our ps2's!

There's probably an internal list of discs that have been blacklisted, so chances are the normal methods of booting homebrew code aren't going to work.

Perhaps looking for a savegame exploit would be a good start...

Supposedly some versions of CodeBreaker do boot as well as some other 3rd party software.

I guess older versions of the CoderBreaker (V1 - V6) do work. V7+ has some heavy anti-modchip protection that seems to fail on the PS3...
