Play Station 2 eXploit Made Easy (PS2XME) v0.9.0 beta

Post by fluke »

I have completted assembling a package (of packages) which I decided to call PS2XME. The package contains exploit save game images for US and Europe (Japan is not included with this release). For the US there is 602 PS1 games which will trigger the exploit and for the EU there is 209 PS1 games (the lists are included). The save file formats include support for Pelican's CodeBreaker CBS format, Datel's MAX format, GameShark's P2M format, legacy SPS/XPS format and nPort's NPO format. Installing the save requires a Play Station 2 memory card with 1MB of free space. Included software is PS2MENU, PS2LINK, mcloader/cdgenps2, InLink and Ps2Exec. The README file is written such that a novice should be able to follow it. The entire ZIP file weighs in at 6MB.

I am looking for two things:

In the short term, I would like testers/feedback. If you have an email account that will accept 6MB attachments, please feel free to use the forum messages function to provide me your email address.

For the long term, is anyone willing to provide this file a home on a website?

Thanks

This is an excellent idea fluke. You should be able to add the .zip to ps2dev.org. If you can't talk to Oobles.

any chance of this getting hosted, so those of us that dont have a 6mb email can get our hands on this? also with the max format, does that work with the max drive also? may be a stupid question but thanks any how.

Good job!
A wide range of exploit save files is something I've been wanting to do for a while, but just too lazy and too many other projects to get it done. If you need a place I can put them on my site at least for now. If interested let me know.

The "Loaders" section of PS2DEV has been updated to include PS2XME. Please provide feedback and I'll try to update the package accordingly.

Thanks

Well, the version of ps2menu on your exploit has a bit of a showstopper bug. UNfortunately, it's diffiuclt to fix. The linked libhdd has a nasty bug that shows up when copying files to the hard drive that can corupt the active partition. I'm not familiar with what exactly triggers the bug, though.

Two PSX games not in the list

Post by psfgc »

The following PSX games I own are not in the games-eu.txt:

SCES_037.12 Peter Pan
SCES_014.31 Tarzan

Might be useful.

Thanks,

Great work fluke!

Here are some more EU codes not on your list that you may like to add to add them for future update to PS2XME!

SLES_015.42 TOCA 2 Touring Cars
SLES_026.05 Colin McRae Rally 2.0
SCES_002.55 Tekken 2 Platinum
SLES_018.93 Bomberman
SLES_000.43 Pang Collection
SLES_018.16 Driver
SLES_118.81 Capcom Generations Disc 2
SLES_218.81 Capcom Generations Disc 3
SLES_318.81 Capcom Generations Disc 4
SCES_009.84 Gran Turismo
SCES_023.80 Gran Turismo 2 Arcade Mode Disc 1
SCES_123.80 Gran Turismo 2 GT Mode Disc 2
SCED_008.16 Playstation Demo Disc Demo One Europe
SCES_002.63 Namco Tennis Smash Court
SCED_018.18 Offical Australian Playstation Magazine Demo 22
SCED_018.27 Offical Australian Playstation Magazine Demo 30

SLES_013.00 The Unholy War
SLES_009.98 Super Street Fighter II Turbo
SLES_013.78 Pocket Fighter
SLES_025.37 Bishi Bashi Special *

* Slightly different to the current SLES specified within your list?!?!?!

EDIT: The EXTRACONF.DAT within the BEDATA XPS save appears to be pointing to mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/PS2NETFS.IRX not mc0:/BEDATA-SYSTEM/PS2NETFS.IRX, which I assume is wrong????

Has anybody had trouble getting execftp 0.68 working with the ps2link (1.24b) that was included in this save? The PS2 keeps closing the connection on me. When I finally was able to change 1.24b to 1.24, everything worked fine. Note that the ftp client I was using was flashFXP.

Thanks

Thanks, it works. I've tested it with the European version, but I changed a code for the EU version of the game "Monopoly" (the only PS1 game I have): SLES_009.45

And I've added the "Plasma Tunnel" demo, to check if I can start something more, and this works, too. But I can't add Naplink. I've added the elf, both irx and the system file, but when I click it, it stops loading with an error. Any idea how to integrate it? Perhaps it would be a good idea to integrate it in the original distribution, for version v1, because then you don't need a network adapter, but only a USB cable.

Another idea: Is it possible to write a driver for PS2, with which the PS2 can be connected by USB to a PC and behaves like a USB Pen Drive, with access to the memcard? Then you could simply plugin the USB cable to whatever PC (or even Mac) you want and you can move the files like to a normal USB Pen Drive.

The following link contains an "all-in-one" version of Naplink that should work with the exploit:

Thanks a lot, that works, but only if I save it as BOOT.ELF. But now I can start programming, the turn-around-times are short enough :-)

And when my Linux kit arrives, I can use the network adapter to make saving on memcard more easier than with the cumbersome Xploder, when I want to make my programs persistent.

When you warez dozens (if not hundreds) of games off the 'Net, you accumulate save files very quickly :P.

It's not for savegames, I just want to make my programs persistent on my memorycard. While developing it is not necessary, because with Naplink it is possible to use the harddisk as a memorycard replacement (I didn't realize this first, really cool!), but just in case I want to show on someones other Playstation what I've done, it would be easier to have a program, with which I can simply copy it from PC to the memorycard. The Xploder needs too long to boot and I have to change the USB driver, because it is not compatible with the Naplink USB driver. I think all these problems will be solved with the Linux kit.

Ok, now my first program. First I've installed the very nice toolchain for Win32:

http://ps2dev.org/kb.x?T=1059

Then I tried to compile the starsim demo:

http://ps2dev.org/kb.x?T=714

but there were some compile errors. I've updated it (removed the crt0.s, changed the Makefile etc.), so now it can be compiled with the toolchain. And I've added a vector font. If you like, you can update the program on the ps2dev-page, perhaps it helps some other newbies. You can download a copy from here:

Problem

Post by Sakirious »

O.K. I downloaded this exploit, installed it following the guide to the T. After it did all the loading, and got to the ps2menu, it loaded up for about an instant. Then it went to a blank screen with only the words: "It is currently using mode 4." Any ideas?

PS2XME: Problem with Codebreaker procedure

Post by Thirpeaux »

I'm new to this community and Play Station 2 eXploit Made Easy (PS2XME) seems the best way for me to get my feet wet. The problem is, the part about using Codebreaker (Item 5) appears incomplete! After copying the cbs file to flash drive, it is not mentioned again. How do I proceed with development and running a program? Do some of the actions in the following Item about Max also pertain to CB?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
