look up ... 12/21 is my release date for first public version
my version system works as this ...i aim for 1.0.0 to be goal
of the project and that will be the end of it
first public build would come half way thru the project
so 0.5.0 is what you guys would get ...and any minor updates
would be incremented as 0.5.1, 0.5.2 etc... and any major
updates (main features or modules) would be as 0.6.0, 0.7.0 etc..
until i finally reach where i want dotOS to remain final version
but the stable build is aimed at 0.5.0 so what till 12/21 =)
as for betas ...i hate the things :P
and yes im handling all visuals as better to do things yourself
if you want em done right as they say ;)

yes December 21 2007 what else did you think
and there is no __another__ year as this is first year :P
now lets not pollute this thread like the pmp player threads
with fan talk and just keep postings to suggestions or honest
inquiry

that's a very promising project, I love the design so far
I have a few question, it seem that there are a few different collor themes, how will they be packed Xml, or bmp or other method?
will you have a maximum resolution limits for the comic viewer?
do you plan to add an archive reader for comic viewer? (zip, rar, cbr files)
as for the vizo, I assume it's a visualisation, do you plan to write one from skratch?
Since it's a xmb remplacement, will it requiere flashing the psp?
I'm very interrested in dotOS :)

ok ill answer all your questions ...
* There are no color themes ...so no xml, no bmps at all
* Comic Viewer will have a limit yes ...as what, not sure yet
* Comic Viewer will support archived images yes
* Vizo is visualizations yes ...i plan on writing 3 bog basic from skratch
* With the added ability of allowing you to create your own with scripting
* It Will flash your psp

This is so cool.
It needs to have support for all other PSP homebrew though, it does right? So you can load eboots? Then here's a few features I really miss in the XMB:
- Support for more formats (especially video)
- USB Host support (connect USB keyboards and storage drives to the PSP)
- Having to put certain things in certain folders, I like to sort 'games' in folder s like '/Games', '/Apps', '/Emulators' etc.
- The Sony PSP Text input is crap. Use the one where you can chose a aquare with the analog stick and the letter with the buttons (like in the Links2 browser)
- Better support for downloading stuff and saving it
- FTP
- Animated backgrounds
- Skins
- Music during game or browsing etc
- Being able to use the UMD drive as a USB device on a PC
- A remote control thing using the IR port, like in IRShell.
This is going to be great, but for me to use it it would need to be based on a some Dark Alex firmware like 3.03OE. Btw what is the difference between VSH and XMB?

I'm confused... all I see are screenshots and changes to colours of icons and text. Have you done any coding for this at all? Is it usable in any shape or form?
You have some very high hopes/targets so it's a very interesting project but I just don't understand what you've done so far. It looks like just graphical design work and none of the important groundwork and system design which usually comes first...

ok ill answer all your questions ...
pspwill:

* XMB and VSH are exactly the Same ...the former is just Marketing glue

Anyhow:
1. Will that mean that it is flashed to the firmware, next to the existing (sony) firmware? Or will it flash itself to the PSP with it's own sony firmware (eg 1.50) included? this may be important because the current firmwares use up the majority of the PSP's flash...
2. I think it is purely a firmware issue, i've seen a few devices being able to get USB host functions by using a firmware update. Also, if someone was willing to supply/manufacture any hardware that would be needed, would you do the software part (if you could)? I think hooking up USB thumbdrives and keyboards (and mice) to a PSP would be a major breakthrough...
3. Of course everyone knows HOW to use the directory structure, but it would be nice if it were possible to sort e.g. eboot's into seperate folders. now when I go to game -> MS -> there are apps, games, emulators and media players all mixed up.
4. You could use it to watch (bought) UMD movies on your PC, this is already possible but rather complicated. they play in any DVD software so if you could make the PC think the UMD drive were sort of a DVD player than it would be very easy to play UMD movies on the PC (which would be nice because you could buy UMDs instead of DVD's, making it possible to watch movies anywhere. right now nobody buys the UMD movies because they cant be watched on TV/PC).
5. I guess it's really simple to do and it would expand the PSP possibilities even further to include 'universal remote control'. the code is already there and you can probably easily use the PSP's IR port. why leave it unused?
6. yeah so are dot_blank and sony, still you plan on using a sony firmware, why not use a d_a firmware? its practically the same but better
1 yes it will flash on top of your existing firmware
---- as including any sony files is strictly illegal
2 dont count on me to enlighten you on this subject ...im just not interested
3 maybe
4 NO
5 practically d_a's firmwares use twice the space needed as they use two
