OK, I have add the cp1250 support in PPA, and it alias is "MS-EE".
the new version PPA will release after a few days.

The latest PSP firmware supports 720x480 resolution via AVC!

If Dark Alex cracks the firmware so a homebrew PSP can use it, does this rnean that PMP MOD finally becomes obselete?

If you read the release notes of Dark Alex custom firmware carefully:

3.03 OE-B
. Patched the firmware to allow decrypted mp4-AVC videos to play at 480x272 resolution.

3.03 OE-C
. AVC videos bitrate limit patched. The firmware limited the bitrate of avc videos to only 768 Kbps

then you see that it's already possible to get rid of the 368x207 (< 76.800 pixel) limit in former Sony Firmwares. You may already play videos with the built in Sony media player.

However there are still many advantages in using PMPMod:
. extended battery life: PMP Mod AVC runs @120MHz clock AFAIK. Default Sony is @266Mhz
. better colors: brown colors tend to display red in the Sony browser. By raising the brightness level in PMPMod the colors of displayed colors are more realistic
. better seeking within videos interface
. better file selection, subtitles, ... [and more]
. basis for other work like PMPVLC, but certainly that doesn't bother you

Last but nut least it is currently unknowned whether FW 3.30 puts some constraints on the maximum bitstream rate of videos.

I am well aware of the Dark Alex 480x272 and bit rate issue, I also used PMP mod for some time but find it easier to use the PSP player for AVC videos .

I was more talking about the NEW higher resolution of 720x480 , will this resloution make videos look a lot better than the 480x272 limit of PMP MOD?

Take a screenshot of a 720x480 movie on PC, downscale it to 480x272 with bilinear filter (important), then encode the movie to 480x272 with mencoder or whatever you prefer and take the same shot. Compare both images and you'll see the visual difference.

Then you need to add the overhead on filesize that the 720x480 format involves (up to a factor of 2,6) and you can decide if that is worth it or not.

The only advantage IMO is that you can encode videos to AVC in high resolution for PC and play the same videos on PSP without reencoding.

cooleyes, thanks for a great app. Just one thing... I'm on FW3.10oe-a(version 2), and I'm getting constant crashing when I exit the app. No problem whatsoever in viewing videos, just exiting the app that freezes the PSP. Any idea what's wrong? Thanks.

Awesome app cooleyes!!!

Do you mind if I ask a request? Well, there's a modified PMP-Mod AVC floating around QJ before which had support for more brightness levels. I'm mainly interested in the darkest one. Could you perhaps implement it in your awesome PPA? Here's the page if you need any details etc: http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-development- ... 89273.html

Also, would it be possible to have OGG Vorbis audio?

Anyways, many thanks for the awesome app - this is the best homebrew ever IMO :)

en, if it have source code release, I can try to add it into PPA.

OGG Vorbis audio is possible to add to PMP.
but I am so busy, I have no more freetime to do this,
maybe someone can do this, or when I have some time, I try.

en, a new version PPA will include CP1251 support alias as "MS-CYRL".

but I think this is the last codeset support in PPA,
because I can not add all the language support in PPA,
it will make PPA more and more fat, and lost control.

C)What encoding does the container support?
D)Can someone put custom backgrounds?
A) In PPA\skins\, rename the normal-en folder to default (replacing the chinese default folder).
B) Just stop the movie, put the PSP into standby, do your thing, take the PSP out of standby, then resume the movie. Remember, the O button starts the movie from the beginning, the X button RESUMES from where you last stopped.
C) AVC video, and either mp3 or AAC audio.
D) Make a png image 144x80, give it the same name as the video, and put it in the folder with the video. For example

ms0:\PSP\VIDEO\TheMatrix.pmp
ms0:\PSP\VIDEO\TheMatrix.png
