Probably you already knew, but you would find great info about how to make an adhoc connection on this emulator: http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/smsplus.shtml . It is not trivial but it doesn't seem imposible to me, also consider that i'm quite noob.
Also there are some threads around this forum where you could find some info.
I'm trying to make the same thing as you so if you find a way to connect via adhoc, i would be grateful if you reported, and i'll do the same.
