Sony licenses texture compression algorithm

this is fairly old news, but it thought some of you guys might be interested as it might help in making sense of some of the files you are working with.
Sony has licensed VIA subsidiary S3 Graphics' S3TC texture compression algorithm for use in the PlayStation Portable (PSP), the two companies announced this week.

Isn't S3TC compression algorithm an old one which have been used in PC for almost 10 years?

yes it is. that's why the knowledge that it' sbein used for psp is useful. :)
