This topic has been started for the discussion and development of a PS3 control pad driver for x64 versions of windows. I will probably edit this as I go, see next post for solution.

Goal
Optimal solution is a standard driver as if it was written by Sony itself. Fully Functional (or as damn close as) within windows.
Minimal setup steps, final solution should be as simple as possible. Right now, all focus is to be on making it work in a wired set up, bluetooth and rumble can come later.

Do not wants
No crazy 20 step processes involving butchering a 32bit driver and running bizarre homecooked apps only to watch my other usb devices go on fire.

FAQ

"Great! When will it be ready??"

Not post rubbish, feel free to lurk and comment if its relevant.

"Why not just install 32bit windows?"
I have 8gb of ram, SLi'd 9600gt's and a quad core CPU, no further answer is required.

Go tend to your mac, it needs watered.

Full credit will obviously be applied where deserved, with that in mind, if you improve on someone elses work, give them credit too.
Not like we get paid for this anyway....

First Questions that needs to be answered are:

Has anyone had a look at this before and if they have, what did they find out.

If someone has had a look at this before, did they come up with any ideas on how to move forwards?

The only currently working solution I know of is this one:

The main problem is that it forces you to disable signature checking while running Windows to use any USB device, due to the incompatibility of libusb.
Other issues include lack of BT and vibration support.

There are a bunch of new simple drivers available here: http://www.ps3-hacks.com/ but unfortunately they can't be installed on 64-bit systems.

those 64bit libusb drivers did get released but no one knows what to do with them.

I have no idea how you can call this a "working" solution...can someone please explain HOW it works? I tried it, and it failed utterly. All my USB ports died and I had to go through hell to get my computer working again.

Exactly as the instructions say. But you have to disable signature checking every time you launch your computer, otherwise no USB devices will work (some may not work even after disabling it).

It's a working solution, but a really poor now. We indeed need an alternative.

This program will let you run unsigned drivers on Windows Vista or 7 64 bits without requiring you to disable unsigned driver support everytime you boot up.
